A family run business with over 45 years of experience in antiques, cabinet making and interiors; Harman’s is now in its 3rd generation and run by brothers Paul and Nicholas. To accommodate today’s trend for mixing contemporary and traditional designs Harman’s have diversified to offer a bespoke range of traditional handcrafted oak furniture
Using traditional methods and specially selected materials of the highest quality the Oak Furniture collection from Harman’s offers an unrivalled selection of country and contemporary feel furniture.
Displayed within their showrooms at 19, West Street amongst the antiques and interior ranges, the Oak Collection offers refectory, trestle, tripod, drop leaf and gateleg tables, dresser and servers, pot cupboards and a wide choice of chairs from Ladder backs to Windsors and leather panel back chairs.
Every item of furniture purchased from the collection is made to order by hand in the UK by craftsmen using traditional methods and techniques to achieve the most desirable and individual pieces of furniture. It is all available in standard sizes or if necessary can be tailored to your specific requirements. Each item is individually French polished by hand and is subjected to a number of aging and staining processes to bring out the full beauty of the wood. All of our finishing is flexible and any level of distressing and colour depth can be achieved. Masters of the traditional art of ‘adzed’ finishing, we are able to apply this to any table top to give the ultimate rustic effect.
Harman’s can also offer a colour matching service to ensure your new purchase compliments your existing furniture or interior decor. If you would like us to match a piece to an existing item of furniture, all you need do is provide our craftsmen with an appropriate sample and will be happy to carry this out for you.
Using the highest quality European oak from sustainable forests, each piece of timber is selected for its richness of grain, making every item produced unique. Carefully seasoned and kiln dried, the oak used will still retain a reasonable moisture content allowing some movement in the furniture to enhance its natural character.
Situated in one of Dorking’s most historic streets, Harman’s is housed in a beautiful building which started life in the 1890’s as the Temperance Hotel, just down the road from the original home of the Pilgrim Father, William Mullins.
